THEME UPDATES

Okay, this was a long time coming...

As of now, there will be 2 types of themes :
1) Current Themes - These are small to medium projects that have deadlines ranging from a week to two months from the start date, and are NOT compulsory for all to join. Helps your portfolio in that you will be doing constant work, keeping your portfolio updated with work. There will only be ONE current theme at any time, and ideas for current theme will be rotational, with a different member suggesting each one.
2) Extended Themes - These are large, long-term projects have no deadlines, stretch on for as much as we like, and COMPULSORY for all to contribute to. Helps your portfolio in that you will have a few pages on one dedicated project, which always look nice. There can be more than one extended theme on at once, but it is recommended that no more than two be active at once. Extended themes must be decided upon by a majority of the members.

The previous theme, Advance Wars Redux, will be absorbed into the Extended Themes section, and hereby be reformed to :

EXTENDED THEME - OPEN WORLD CARD GAME

An Open world war concept card game where anything goes. There will be several categories of cards you can design for, of which currently there are :
- Character - Otherwise, a hero card that has stats, special abilities, and hero effects.
- Equipment - Special items either for Heroes or Units. Can augment stats or give abilities.
- Unit - Non-hero Units that form the base of your armies. Has stats and abilities
- Event - Cards that have specific influences upon many things.
- Location - A designated battleground which certain Units may find more beneficial.

Card layouts are being thought out and will be provided for in time to come, but also take note that layouts are subject to change depending on the gameplay. How the game plays will take some time to think out, so try to ignore that for now.

All previous theme concepts are absorbed into this new theme, character designs will naturally go into the character section, and vehicle designs either into Units, or Equipment. Try not to restrict yourself to only develop from where you started off, you can always try new things. Like try a new style, or try a different culture, or a new card category. It can be boring just designing characters all the time.

This change is meant to inject more purpose into the theme, by providing an end result (the card game) which is more practical. Plus it also lets us have fun by giving us the chance to develop our very own card game, which is probably the easiest form to gaming to develop on. What's cooler than playing our very own card game?


Any clarifications, or ideas to add on? Just comment on this post. A current theme is in the works and will be posted soon. So for now, just sit tight.

Crisis!

Posting using my 4 year old Powerbook.......

Wah lao eh damn sian.... my macbook pro is giving me problem, its only a few months old and this happened... the keys 'n' 'h' 'y' '6' '=' for some reason doesn't respond anymore... and the first 4 keys i mentioned forms a row... probably burnt chips or something.. Zzz... yea and i wanted to post some drawings for this entry but guess what... now i can't even log into my laptop... my password contains one of those letters... XD i can't even use my favorite =D smily face anymore...

man i look freaking scary... =X

And tmre i'm going for my Performance review board... wish me luck, competing with the top soldiers from OCS for the sword of merit... i wouldn't even think of getting sword of honor, coz its for top infantry cadet. yea... well i so wanted to go out of course one time during the past 6 months in hotel wing, but somehow i find myself waiting for just 3 more weeks to commissioning... and even more surprised i am selected to go for the review... firstly being second class citizen isn't very helpful to being liked by the platoon... and i kinda keep myself in my bunk too much, i never really came out to interact with the platoon when i first started, so yea popularity level wasn't really there... all i can say is that the commanders gave me some chance to prove my worth la... so yea, grateful for that and along the way some of the platoonmates did step in and helped a little la... very soon, me and yingzhong is going to commissioning and start a new phase of our NS career... after that its counting down 9 months to ORD LOH!!!!

Feel damn sad for my powerbook... after i got my new book, i lend my sister this laptop for her 'school work'.. i dont even know if she really needs it or what la but nvm... i still give it to her coz its not very nice to keep 2 laptop to yourself... once in awhile i'll pick up this laptop and do a little bit of maintanance... sigh......... heartaching sia.... i found some chipped scratch on the cover... the up down left right button are yellowish stained... the monitor is decorated with fingerprints.... wah lao eh.. she really dont know how to take care of stuff one leh, when will she ever learn? tsk tsk tsk.............

Regarding the theme,

It's quite obvious very few of us are working on it. But for those who have, don't worry. It's not gonna be scrapped. I'm thinking of a way to revamp the whole thing. More news in time to come.

Hell Girl (Advance Wars Theme)

Finally, I have finished it, lol. Had been stopping work for quite some time, need to force myself back to doing some drawing! Anyway, this is to illustrate a "tortured soul" of a girl, sent by the satan accompanied with her pet machinery, to stop war and abuse once and for all. The girl is to portrait a female version of a deathslayer.

The concept may sound abit extreme... different from what I did for my initial sketch. More improvement has to be done, haha.

Here's a little update on my progress with the character design i did previously, still work in progress. i was thinking of compositing it into a scene. the vehicle is not yet touched yet. gonna do it in this few days or maybe around nxt week after i finish editing this.

I know i know, you guys have probably seen this pic a couple of times, but its finally done... not very happy with the weapon though...

any words of advice on painting would be nice, digital painting isn't one of my better traits... i kinda suck at it as a matter of fact... but i've come to realise i can't just keep my drawings in shades of gray... so yea, gonna go do more and hopefully get better... anyone has got any links to tuts or websites that teaches coloring digitally?? i can sure use some color theory lessons =P

Please keep the posts coming, i'm throwing up another painting soon... but still figuring how to paint the face so it doesn't look like manga...... ( well, i just got this feeling it will turn out looking flat ) but nvm.... keep trying...
